Waterworks, 2023
Wood, Ceramic, Steel, Plaster, Wax, Gravel, Found Fragments
(Detail, The Head of the Fountain, Glazed Ceramic, 2023)
Glasgow’s abandoned fountain network was a starting point for Waterworks. By reimagining the structure of a fountain, I attempted to challenge the concreteness of monuments. Building this piece was a welcome challenge. I wanted to keep the form a question and an experiment for as long as possible. For this reason, the finished work feels temporal and modellike. My process aims to counter historic practices in the West that elevate the idea of genius and control.
